Since it has been a year and half since my last entry, I am finding it hard to find a place to start. Hmm... well, I suppose I can begin with recent news.
As of May of last year, after working on it for 2.5 years, I earned an associates degree in Supervisory Management. Although I honestly do not plan on doing anything with it at this current time. I am rather proud of myself. It was my first venture into a schooling system since my parents pulled me and brothers out of public school after my tour through first grade. There where bumps along the way as I learned about the joys and thrills of a state run institution, but I managed my way through it and even earned honors for my degree.
As I neared the end of my classes, it became evident to me that I wanted to go for an artistic route, but I lacked the confidence to do so. In this realization, I started to search for classes related to drawing (a skill I believe I'm lacking in in comparison to other artists). In this search I found myself being lead to the University of Wisconsin - Superior -- the Uni. my sister-in-law was attending for her degree (which she just earned with quite high marks). I was able to speak with a teacher from there who ran the drawing classes and was able to observe one of his classes from last spring. This teacher was incredibly helpful in trying to help me find my path and even suggested I look at another university he recommended since the my interests with art rested in the digital realm. Sadly, that lead went no where, but I did end up signing up at Superior to truly see if my interest and skill in art was strong enough. The result of that semester (the one from this past fall), even though I disliked my other classes, was a great personal triumph for me. My skill and hand drawing improved quite rapidly from just taking that one class and I found myself wanting to do more. (If you are wondering, I would scan some of my works, but that canvas I used for most of my drawings is much to large for my scanner. Apologies for that!
Leaping from this triumph, I started to look my intensely at a new outlet for the Rasmussen college system (which was introduced to me by my cousin) that appeared in Wausau, Wisconsin. In my search through the programs they provide, I found they had a digital design and animation degree. This degree contains both 2d and 3d animation classes. I was thrilled to say the least.
So, after a spur in my butt from the mother figure and others, I am now truly going for the education I've wanted for many years now! I am still working out the entry stuff, but you can truly hope to see at least SOMETHING put up this year on deviant art from me (unless something catastrophic happens.... I hope not. I wish not. Such WILL NOT! RAwRG!
And on that note, I have been coloring some of my drawings in Photoshop to see just how well I can do it at the current moment. Provided I finish one, I will put it up.
On a more sad note, Maya: PLE is no longer functional. So the renders I have on my computer and on DA of some of the models I made (I made many, MANY more that are not seen here) are the final renders. The file format was unique to Maya: PLE so it is not compatible with any 3d modeling/animation program (even the full version of Maya), so those models are officially lost. I knew this would happen eventually, so I am not distraught by this turn of events. Besides, I'll be getting to mess around with the latest version of 3ds Max soon!
Welp, I've made more than enough of a wall of text to compensate for my lack of journal updates. Let's hope my optimism is not misplaced!
